I did them on a 20'. They are 7' long. I use them for spearguns, but a few rods would fit in each. The depth of the locker in relation to reel size is the limiting factor on a 20' not sure on a 23'.

I used 1/2" coosa for my cap and had no problems...

I used 1/2" coosa for my cap and had no problems with the sheer. I did however have one spot that bowed inward horizontally near the transom where I split the cap.

You might want to ask the guys on here that know more than me, but from what I've read you should be fine with the 2lbs foam. Foam isn't the structural even if it's 4lbs.

I think they changed the stringer layout mid '72. My '72 has the big box stringers. Other rebuild thread show '72s with the 4 stringer layout.
