Default Re: Chalky 1977 Hull. What to do?

SC77,
I have a 78' and before I got I don't think it was ever waxed. Needless to say it was very chalky. I started with 400 and went to 600, then 1000, 1500, 2000, 3M rubbing and polishing compounds. Then wax. One thing that is very important, take it slow don't go to hard with the heavier grit paper, use wet/dry paper and like Otto said use water to lubricate and keep the paper from loading up. I actually used a spray bottle with a weak soap solution(an old trick). Also beer will keep you lubricated as well.
