I don't think there's a recommended frequency. I change it ~ 2 yrs. and carry a spare. When clogged it prevents the tank pump from moving oil the the engine tank. I think the usual item to clog it is pieces of rag or diaper from wiping the cap/lid/funnel. Share a link to the SS bracket.
