motor height and nameplate

I rebuilt the transom at 25" to match the motor and put the motor back in the old holes. It now occurs to me the motor might be a couple inches low. Any opinions? What motor heights have you used successfully?

Also my 73 23SF does not have numbers molded into the hull. the only nameplate is what you see here. Is anyone aware of the legitimate way to transfer hull numbers?
