I've had great results with Polyfair,no matter how thick or thin when applied.I used it to fair out extensive damage to the gunnels that the previous owner did,and used it on the rear cap that I cut off when I did the transom.
Never had any curing problems with the Polyfair,no matter the thickness.

Mixed it up on a piece of flexible cutting board material, and applied it where needed, thick or thin.I had better results applying it in thin coats, rather than a thick coat that had to be sanded down.
It doesn't like to be under catalyzed,so it's better to work with small batches, and apply it quickly.
The flexible cutting board mats from the dollar store work nice, any remaining cured waste on it comes right off when you flex the mat.Re use it over and over.
