My boat had the wood center keel in it as well and still does it is not rotton. I drilled in 3 places to check it. The only wood that was rotton in my boat was those dam battery boxes and thats it. Not sure what the heck Dunk is talking about. Gotta love that pic of that guys 23 sceptre running in the evening.

Hey,
I resemble that remark... Coming into Port Canaveral with fish boxes full of grouper, snapper, and dolphin. Blood and bait smeared all over the boat. Salt caked on the windshield. The smell of 2 stroke oil burning. My kind of day. ![]() Yes Dunk is wrong about plywood stringers, but he is right about the transoms in most of these beast that are wet/rotten/shot after 20 years. I don't know him personally, but he is a great asset in what he knows best, OMC stuff. I have been in and out of my 23' tracker hull, and I am about to pull an early 70's potter hull apart. I will let you know IMHO what I see between the 2. I know all you Potter guys think your boat walks on water, instead of slicing through it, but jeezzzzz, lighten up!!!! There all good. |

Hey lets face it, even the Potter builts aren't indestructible:
![]() . But they are worth restoring. And it seems like more people are starting to realize that. Or is it just this site that makes it seem that way ? |

Billybob-
You are 100% correct but I cringe to think if that happened on another hull..........I have seen what does happen and they do not make it back to the trailer/dock. |

I have had to think about this issue more than once, and I have shied away from saying much because I have truly enjoyed all the good times here not wanting to ruffle up any of my buddies feathers. Shoot, if it wasn’t for Trader I would probably be doing work instead of talking about boats right now. BUT FOR ME, I enjoy everyone conversation about SeaCrafts no matter how old or new they are, I appreciate their decision to get one of them, no matter what ever they could find and afford, new or old already fixed up or going to do the work themselves or are going to spend the $$ to get fixed up by a pro. or even buying a new one because of no time or talent to go through the process themselves. I LOVE THE FUNDAMENTAL HULL DESIGN that has really never changed through all the years. Yes, I got a 76 23 Potter CC SF and Very Proud of it I looked long and hard for mine, but you know, there aren’t many around to find, and most guys that have them aren’t going to give them up very soon. So what is a guy going to do??? Sit at the beach or bar and hope one day he will find one “or” GET WHAT HE CAN fix what needs to be fixed and get on with having fun with their boat and enjoy life. Personally, for me (please don’t stone me) I think we should be seeing the common thread of what we have in common in these boats not the differences no matter how new or old they are. I would rather commend someone on what they got than directly or indirectly suggest that their boat is inferior to mine and they need to get in line with some sort of pecking order that has been established. Some one pass me a Bud and remember the pecking order is My Boat then everyone else’s no matter what you got.

C'mon Fellowship everyone knows 73 was the best year, every other pales by comparison
Actually I couldn't agree with you more. In fact, I'll take it a step further. I have respect and I wish the best for any boater out there, no matter what boat he chooses. I love being a part of the boating community. For the most part, weather you have a 14' jon boat or a 48 Bert I have found boaters to be genuine down to earth people who will help out there fellow man. Sure, there are exceptions but generally speaking boaters are cool people. |

I don't know what caused your delaminating and I know you have fixed it, but I have seen two other boats (one was a SeaCraft and the other a Dusky) with the exact same problem. Both were caused by improper trailer setup. The bunks and/or guides were positioned in such a manner that extreme pressure was placed in a certain area (the load was not balanced) and over time fatigue set in then delamination resulted ![]() I don't think this is an inherit problem to SeaCraft, but just an FYI for you and others to be conscious of their trailer configurations BTW: Your boat sure looks great!! but '78 was the best year
