so it sounds like all i need is the red/pink hooked up from the sending unit to the gauge and a NEG to the other terminal on the sending unit correct?

You need two wires going to the sender. A +pos and a -neg. Then go to the gauge and hook pos to sender post on gauge and neg to neg post on gauge. The gauge will also need a power supply and ground.
