I don't have the lower unit off, so I can't really get a picture of the top of the shift shaft. But the new one has a hole on both ends. I does not go all the way through, just a little bit it looks like

I'd go old school and call Bay. They will know if the parts for your extension fit their extension. They may not. I'd just return it, or resell on ebay take the small loss and buy the Bay extension. Who needs an extra brand new drive shaft sitting around anyway.

I agree call them up and ask. Personally I believe you can use most of the parts. 5" studs should be 5" studs and a 5" spacer should be a 5" spacer, but you never know.

The motor I am running now (franken merc 1987 2.4L 175 powerhead on 2001 mid and lower). I used the studs and the 5" spacer from mid 80's merc to make my 2001 25" merc 200 mid-section/lower into a 30" motor. I only bought a shift shaft and drive shaft from bay and replaced the water tube with a copper pipe from hardware store . . . just made it 5" longer.
