You can use mechanical controls and keep the price way down.

They will be available in May, price is extremely competitive with a sale price of $14,900 for a 225 mechanical for starters.

The profile is such that it takes up less splash well/transom space than the Opti, and both L4/L6 Verados when trimmed all the way out. Not sure where it rates on competitive models at this point.

FWIW - MSRP for the 2017 150hp is $13,790 and there are places that sell the engine alone for under 10k.

Where I bought mine.

$4,000 below msrp would make the 225 a very attractive deal.

Quotes from my Merc dealer.

Mechanical shift:
new 225XL would cost you 15,399 plus tax for the engine only
new 225XXL would cost you 15,592.50 plus tax for the engine only.

Thanks Big! If I had known Merc had these 4S models coming out at that price point....and assuming the mechanical would "bolt up" to my old Merc controls I would have considered this big time. Especially if they also had the 250 hp available.

Don - I'm right with you. I love my 150, but if I had known the new engines were right around the corner I might have waited.

Hmmm, that is pretty tempting! No Merc dealer on St. Croix, but I know a guy there who's Merc certified. What prop do think would make sense on a 23' Sceptre Big?
