Default motors

I know this is a boating forum,[seacrafts] boats need motors.
dah! what I want to know is why do some people only want i/o's or i/b's and won't touch an o/b.As well as the other way around. If or when I
decide to take on another seacraft project, this may very well influence as to what I look for.I would really like to hear from everyone on this matter. thanks....steve

Default Re: motors

i hope i can help, but this is all my opinion

I/O - wouldnt touch one, in making this they created a mechanical monster, not to mention one that leaks, plus the engine box in the back takes up valuable transom room

I/B - Grrrreat. the classic offshore fishing look, nice closed transom with no weight on it and big centered engine, if i had it my way all boats would be inboats, however you do have to watch out for water destroying the engine

O/B - the way to go for most boats. the out-board was designed specificly for boats so why not use it for its intented purpose. how ever as allot of you have learded with rotted transoms is that sometimes the weight on the transom is overwhelming

I like Ben's opinion.....

We (the family) have had all three ... alot of each type....and Personally I/O not for me thank you!! we had many issues with those sterndrives (I havent been in an I/O for quite some time so maybe things have changed for the better... I'm sure they have)
As mentioned.. leaking problems, maintenance, nice areas for water to get in and do a number on that wood transom....

Inboards are great very reliable and easy to work on....little tricky with a single backing down until you get the angles down...Twin screw.......Nothing simpler to run....use to run a 28 and 38 Bertram and occasionally a 45 Viking ... awesome control !!! but we cant have that in these boats....

Outboards....we'll they speak for themselves as most of us have them on the site....Two better than one ...for obvious reasons...
