Default Drain Plugs

What type of drain plugs does everybody use? I currently use 2 of the rubber stopper with brass type in my transom and baitwell drain. They seep, get covered with barnacles and sea worms eat the rubber. In fact this weekend while swimming and scrubbing my waterline, one of the drainplugs had come halfway out. Talk about SCARY! I am considering installing the brass screw in type. I am also considering glassing over the drain for the baitwell as I don't use it. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
