Jim,
I have a 23 Scepter with a 250 Merc EFI, and I cruise between 25-30, with a top speed of about 41. This is with crew, gas, and a hardtop. If you have a top, you will lose between 2 and 3 mph. If you go to a 4 stroke, it will add more weight, with a little less power, but get better MPG. If you are buying new, and gas milage is an issue, I would be looking at a 4 stroke 225hp.

Check out the new Boating mag this month. They feature a report with a Cobia 23cc with a 250HP Yamaha HPDI. The 3.3 Litre block is bigger than any 225 or 250 on the market. The fuel #'s look incredable and it weighs about 40 to 50lbs less than a 225 4 stroke.(top spead 50mph) I seriously think you will see a LOT more of this motor in the future.

Almost forgot, you can buy two Suzuki 4 Strokes for the price of one HPDI 250 or 225 4-stroke.

Well I get a true 49mph at 5700rpm with a 250 Merc, I cruise around 40mph at 5000rpm turning a 19pitch stilletto prop. Full load 2 people and two 110 coolers and 120gallons of gas.
