Thinking of adding a bracket to my 1999 23. any recs on type of bracket? Will I need to close in the transom? Any drawbacks? Not sure if I am going for twins or single yet.

tdog,
Welcome to the board! The bracket topic is one of the most popular on this site (probably in the top 5), so you may want to do a search and you'll find tons of info. I don't have one on my 23 Sceptre, but from what I've learned, any bracket with added floatation is a must. Closing in the transom totally is an individual preference depending on if you want/need additional storage or baitwells. Some of the guys have done it, others have left an opening. From what I hear, the Seamark bracket is the way to go. IMO the only drawback is the added distance the engine(s) are set back, which can make fighting a fish a little more challenging. |

Thanks for the reply. I would actually like to keep the transom open. My concern has been with anchoring offshore and wether I would take any waves. I do have a spashwell door. From what i have read on this forum, it seems that a 30" setback is recommended. My boat is a 1999 and the transom is fine but I wonder about long term stress as well. Has anybody had longterm experience with Hermco/Seamark's bracket?
Tdog PS: what is the "four boat rule?" |

Scott,
I believe the record would give credit to Finster for coining the infamous "4 boat theory". I, however, have the distinction of being the first to realize it. I offically DO NOT support the 4 boat theory, I'm just kind of stuck there.
