Just trying to passing along what I’ve observed, learned and things that happened to me...Glad I could help.

When I took a transducer off the transom water pissed out for a minute .... I traced it to that area of the bilge ...right on that second plane of the hull .... jumped on the "battery" platform and felt the "sponge effect". As far as structure goes ... I don’t think it does much....seems like nothing but a flat spot they just quickly glassed in .... Pretty funny as Seafari and I were talking about that issue this morning !!
