The newer boats have the same problem. My 1999 25'er did, so I put a Striker live well pump on it with a stainless strainer and I pump it though a though hull fitting. The only thing I forgot to do was to put a loop in hose. I get sea water backing into the "fish box" which hammers my ice if the seas are up.
