Default 20' sceptre fuel hatch

The fuel tank cover was saturated with years or brackish water I removed roving woven and mat to find that all the plywood was 6" x 6" squares must have been built on a Friday I got this boat from the original owner and hatch was never rebuilt no wonder it was spongy hope the transom wasn't built the same way. I think I'm going to go with stainless or alum diamond tread on the fuel hatch any thoughts. I work in a large shipyard so I can get the plate at no cost.

Been there done that.....many of us have had similar situations ....

And in this thread is the answer(see Hermco's response about the 6x6 squares)

SS plate ….guess that will solve any rotting issues

I think I would spend a weekend rebuilding the original hatch. The metal one would be hot on the feet and if you matched the thickness of the hatch it might weigh more than if you replaced the core with plywood. If you used a composite material than I know that the metal would be more. The second reason I would rebuild is to keep the boat original.
