Hello Boys,
On my 20' 1973 CC, I'd like to cut out the sides of the cockpit from the front of the CC back to the aft seats. I've searched the archives and can't come up with the answer to whether or not this will compromise the strength of the hull at all. I'd like to cut the area out and build a glass "box" for hanging rods in that space. I can use the existing up front but usually carry 8-10 rods and would like to get them stowed for long runs in rough weather. Anybody have any experience with this? Thanks Scot

Scot,
I have no experience doing this, but you're not going to compromise the hull's integrity. There is a void between the hull and liner, so cutting out a section of the liner won't hurt anything as long as you leave in place any supports or ribs there may be. |

.... only problem is that there arent any ribs or supports in that empty space the strengt and rigidity of the gunnels relies on that solid glass laminate. if you cut it out you will need to glass in knees that connect the gunnels to the hull sides, however if you only cut out a large oval like th space in the front the gunnel strength above the oval will be slightly compromised but then you have the problem of glassing rodholers, acess could make it difficult,
goodluck! Ben
