Scupper/drain relocation ???

How's this for an idea?

Instead of going directly out the back, what if on the inner liner (aiming out the back) you used on of these

Then aim towards the lowest point of the splash well, on the inside of the transom. All water would drain to the splash well then out the splash well drains.

I believe that the lowest point of the splash well is lower than the deck (on the 23').

I like that idea as long as there is enough angle for water to drain out the back, if not then rain water could build up on the deck (if boat is kept in the water at a dock) then that rain water would drain into the bilge through hatches that could cause real problems if bilge bump breaks. Underway you will always have more then enough angle just at the dock could be a problem.

I recently spoke to a guy ' in the know ' about the transom, RABUD brand " ball scupper " idea.

He says that if the boat is kept in the water ( mine will be ) that marine growth will eventually find its way to prevent the ball from sealing the seawater from coming back in - thus defeating the whole purpose.

Back to the plugging idea for the original, floor scupper holes while under way !

Too bad there is no way to put a one-way valve or a 'flap' on the outside of the original floor scupper to only let water out and not in... Is there such a thing ?

My 1989 23WA has scupper drains and has rubber flappers on the outside. They work great. The boat came rigged that way and I do not get any water inside. I run a 200 hp Merc, 15 hp Honda kicker and 2 scotty downriggers and usually 2 people sitting on the rear corners while trolling.
The scupper tops are about level with the motor well drain holes. I don't have a digital camera so can't do a picture for you. I do have a Mercury test bulletion sheet w/a picture but I don't think it would scan very well. I scanned it and e-mailed to you. Hope it works for you.

It still cracks me up that the hull design could be so revolutionary for its time and the deck drains such a half azz cluster F***. Oh well, Got to take the bad with the good I guess. [img]images/icons/wink.gif[/img]

Alan it stays in the water. What he did was he cut the bottom off a thru hull fitting and placed it towards the transom ( cut thru the front face of the corners then it looks like 2 inch soft tubing white, connected that to the Rabud scuppers coming thru the transom.This might be confusing you might be able to see it in one of the pics, Diego.
