Default Are twin 150's to much

I,m looking at a Seacraft 23 set up with twin 150's on a bracket. Is this to much engine for this size boat?

If the bracket doesn't have floatation, I'd be concerned with the stern sitting too low and the engines getting dunked. The boat is not overpowered though. My 23 Sceptre is rated for 500hp , that's a bit much.

I have twin 200 Mercury EFI's on a Stainless Marine Floatation bracket on my 23' 1975 cc. Mine sits fine but I have an additional gas tank forward of the console that helps with the balance. If your bracket has a floatation chamber then I think you might be alright. I know that some 150 hp engines weigh as much as the 200's do. Before I added the other tank it sat a little low in the stern but it was never a problem. The deck drains didn't allow water in unless two of us were in the back before the additional weight up front but now it is not an issue at all. Twin 150s will be plenty of power and push the boat real well. 200s are a little overkill but the boat came with the motors. Good Luck!!

I've seen two with twin 150's (Yamahas)on the notch !!! (transom's were redone to 30") Additionally I've seen a pair of 200's and a pair of 225's on Stainless marine floatation brackets.

And of course our own John R had the mother ship with 470 ponies hanging in the notch

The older center console boats were rated to 400 ....while the newer boats are rated to 300

This one is a former inboard/outboard set up that was converted. How concerned should I be with the transom on this boat. I am getting it surveyed but just want to know what the likelyness of the transom being bad since it was I/O set up. I know notched transoms seem to have the transom problems. This conversion was done in 98. Floor feels solid.

Slider, check out the post on the performance board about twin set-up. Good info there on the subject.

My 23 WA is cut for twin outboards. I would think 2 strokes, although several on the board has twin 4 strokes but they are recomending more floatation via a rear bracket. I think that would be ideal. I run a single 200 Merc 2 stroke on my own 23. I was seriously looking at the new 250 Suzuki 4 stroker, it is about 100# heavier and close to the same fuel sonsumption.
