Believe it or not, I miss working on my 23 (although running it is better).I wish I had room for another project boat. The 20 I/o would be a cool setup when your out alone or with say one other guy and space isn't a consideration. How do you guys think that thing would run with the biggest tweaked out small block you could get in her?

Anything more than 270 Horse would be death to an Alpha One...
However, a good compromise, put a 4.3 V-6 in it with a 4BBL, MSD Marine ignition, stronger cam, 225HP, 4 stroke reliability ... (serious cutting to fit that motor in it)

Guys I hate to burst the Alpha bubble but.....I am currently running about a 400hp 454 through a 1.32 alpha drive. Boat is about 5k wet and runs 63+. The drive has NEVER blown since 1987 when it first got wet. I went through it 2 years ago and replaced a couple bearings for S&G's but she was still tight. Merc warrantied them to 330hp but the Bravo one worked out better for merc & warranty repairs(people do drive like idiots you know). If you do not nail it from a dead start and are off when you land from catching air, she should hold forever. The driver for Team Baja has 450hp on one and says....no problem.

Went and looked at this on my way home from Maine. Price is too high for me. This boat needs a lot of work . The boat is pre 73 not a 77 or 76. All boats manufactured on or after November 1, 1972 must bear a HIN. No hull ID on this boat.
I'll offer $1000 for just the hull. You keep the outdrive . Jim |

Actually, I am pretty sure the boat is a 1974 not pre 1972...I saw the title a few weeks back after I took those pictures for my friend. There is a hull id number that is etched? into the starboard side of the transom. When I did the original posting, I guessed that it was a 1976 or 1977...Sorry for the error.
As far as trailers are concerned, there is a place on RT. 1 Salisbury, MA up the road from the boat in Newbury, MA, that sells used trailers. Or, if someone is really interested....I am selling my bunk trailer that I am currently using for a 23' because I need to move over to a roller trailer. Ramps are too steep in northern Mass. |
