Default Fish Finders

Hi Guys-

I need a new fish finder and have been searching around. raytheon builds a good machine, I think it is the L750 or something, but I like Furuno. Does anyone have an opinion????

Also, I am thinking of replacing my transom mounted t/d with a thru hulled model. I think this will be a good move, any thoughts?

I have a Furuno 582 color lcd with a dual frequence transducer and love it. I did do a lot of research on sounders before buying it and are glad that i did. You can read it in daylight and it marks fish very well.I was turned on to it while fishing on a buddys boat at the bb bouy a year ago. He has the 582 and the northstar 962 with sounder and perfers the 582. (Northstar does all of there r+d on his boat so he gets all the new toys for nothing) But I do know for a fact that the engineers for northstar were blown away buy it and decided to come out with something similar.

Hooper I am in the market for one to and I have narrowed it down to the Furuno 6100. It came out last summer and I have found nothing but good things said about it on some of the other boards. It was said that you could not get a better sounder under $400(my price range). I just removed the Si-Tex CRT sounder(older unit) that came with my boat it was too big and I needed the room for my new GPS(RayNav 300). The larger LCD units like the Ray. 750 are the cats meow but I still need some money left over for next summers bait so I'm going to go with the Furuno 6100 and see what happens. Jon-

I too have looked at the Furuno. I saw it in action at Boater's World and was really impresses with its' clarity. Some LCD machines look like they came off of something on the Jimmy Houston Largemouth Bass Tour, but these looked really good. Are you going with a thru hull or transom mount????

Hooper I am going to go with the transom mount so I can get the speed/water temp out of it too. If I can figure it out the GPS will be tied into the VHF and the Furuno 6100 when I'm done. I like the fact the Furuno has a cruise mode that will chart the bottom at cruise speed. It looks like a great unit for the money. At cruise speed the older unit I removed would not keep accurate depth leaving me guessing. Your right about some of the other LCD's, I really don't want to see a "fish symbol" on the screen, I'd rather see what the echo really looks like. Now I just need spring time!

I have a Furuno 667 have had it for about 5 years its a great unit but the only draw back is when the sun hits it you cant seeit. I would personally go with a thru hull originally I had it transom mounted and then went thru hull it made all the difference in the world. RS.
