Hey Fellow-Ship....Or anyone else with comments
That’s funny about your registration documents and the HIN ..... AS I have the same issue. The HIN states the boat is a 1976 hull yet the paperwork states its a 1977.....and was sold as such. Not that its a big deal and its been this way for 25 years but .... Question, as I am about to renew my registration, Shouldn’t the registration and HIN be the same? I mean the HIN is right on the registration showing 76 as the last two digits....like with a car the registration reflects the year it was made not purchased........ Anyone have comments on this ???? HA GUYS
THE WAY I WAS TOLD AT LEAST IN FLORIDA TO UNDERSTAND IT IS THIS WAY. (IN THE PAST) MEANING IN THE 1970’S AND ON INTO THE 80’S THE YEAR THE BOAT WAS ACTUALLY MANUFACTURED IS ON THE VIN # ON THE TRANSOM OF THE BOAT. BUT THE DATE IT WAS FIRST REGISTERED IN THE STATE COULD BE THE FOLLOWING YEAR, OR THE YEAR IT WAS FIRST SOLD. THUS THE REGISTRATION & ALSO THE TITLE OF THE BOAT COULD BE A DIFFERENT YEAR. MY GUESS IS THAT ON BOATS THAT WERE MANUFACTURED LATE IN ONE YEAR COULD SHOW THE FOLLOWING YEAR AS THE YEAR ON THE TITLE. IT WAS LIKE THINKING THAT THE BOAT WAS A NEW BOAT UNTIL IT WAS FIRST SOLD. HOPE THAT HELPS. FELLOW-SHIP |

HA I THOUGHT OF ANOTHER THING. IF I TOOK A WHOLE YEAR FOR ME TO RE DO MY BOAT I CAN UNDERSTAND POTTER TAKING 2 YEARS TO BUILD THE BOAT IN THE FIRST PLACE. THUS I GOT A 76-77 BOAT.

I have the same thing with my 18'...hull stamped as '75, title says '76. Then again, I have a 1991 Jeep that says it was manufactured 8/90, so I guess it's not all that unusual...I think FELLOW-SHIP has it dead on.

Hello Scott-
The combined letters of "DMV" and "RMV" send shivers up my spine!!! I hear what you are saying and considering Fellowship has the sane issue I would guess, just a guess, that although the hull was made in 76 it was a 77 model year. (Although no relation) I know with my 1999 Yamahas, they are registered ( a Rhode Island thing) as 1999's but on the tilt bracket they are clearly stamped "Manufactured October 1998". I know HIN# stamping has changed a few times in the past 30 years. My guess is your boat was made in 76 but is a 77 model year. Or.....Someone just screwed up If it were me I wouldn't muddy the waters with the DMV and leave it alone. Oh the shivers |
