Default Dock lines

Well time to split hairs here......

Anyone who keeps their boat in the water (or not).....what do you use for dock lines???? 3/8" or 1/2"

A bunch of 1/2" Braid came with the boat..... The cleats will pull out before this stuff lets go!!!!!

Same for Anchor line I was thinking 7/16" 3-strand.....
as 3/8 has been recommended (seems light but at the same token 1/2 seems heavy)

Hey Scott, I leave mine in a slip, I dont think the size matters to much, I use 1/2" 3 strand for mine.
On your anchor lineI also use 1/2" , but I also think 7/16" would probably be better. I like to fish deep water wrecks so it is important to me for the line to sink quickly. Just my opinion though, for shallower water either is fine. BTW- a long chain 6 to 10 or 12 ft is a nessecity(sp).craig

Ha Scott
How’s it going? I have been setting up a under the center consol tackle box. I’m installing it under that little globe box compartment in the consol. It going to have 6 trays to it and still have enough room to the right of it for a narrow door so I can get into the center consol for service of the hydraulic steering and the shifting binnacle plus I still can put some extra stuff in there if I need to. I read you question about lines I have been using ˝” for both tying off the boat at the dock and for anchor lines not that 3/8 “ wouldn’t work great the reason I use ˝ is because it is easier to grip and work with when you are pulling on it. I use to use 3/8” on my 18 ‘ Hydrasprot and didn’t care for the stuff for these reasons.

Well as long as we are talking anchors what kind are you using??? and what weight?? what rode do you carry on the boat all of the time???

I was thinking 300-350' of 7/16" and "alot" of 1/4" chain as that would buy me a scope of about 5-1 most of the time .... then I would supplement it with another 250' when necessary

I was considering a Fortress but thats alot of money for an aluminum anchor that I would never break apart anyway!!!

Fellow....sounds like things are really coming together....Glad to hear it!!!

HA SCOTT
I HAVE TWO ANCHOR LINES ONE IS MY SHORT ONE FOR SHALLOW WATER STUFF ABOUT 100’ THE OTHER IS FOR FISHING ON THE ARTIFICIAL REEFS DOWN HERE I GOT 400’ ON THAT ONE WITH ABOUT 8’ OR MAYBE 10’ OF CHAIN. I USE A REGULAR GALVANIZED DAN FORT TYPE ANCHOR RATED FOR MAX 23’ BOATS. IF I START HAVING ANY PROBLEMS I WILL GO WITH A LITTLE BIGGER ANCHOR. I PUT THE ROPE ON A GARDEN HOSE SPOOL THAT KEEPS THINGS NICE AND NEAT I ALSO USE THAT ANCHOR RETRIEVAL SYSTEM TO BRING IT UP WITH I LIKE THAT A LOT.
