HA BRAD
I HAVE BEEN GOING OUT OF MIAMI AS USUAL FOR THE LAST FEW MONTHS TON’S OF BAIT IN GOVERNMENT CUT I HAVE BEEN FISHING AROUND FOWEY LIGHT AND A LITTLE SOUTH FROM THERE. LET’S SEE THREE WEEKS AGO 1 A.J. 45 LBS, ONE MUTTON 15 LBS, ONE BLACK GROUPER 20 LBS, AND ABOUT 6 KINGS, ONE LARGE CUDA AND A DOLPHIN. TWO WEEKS AGO MOSTLY KINGS AND BONITA. THEN THIS LAST SATURDAY 3 MUTTONS ONE WAS ABOUT 15 LBS. ONE GAG GROUPER ABOUT 10 LBS. 7 SMALL KINGS, AND ONE 30 POUND A.J. LOTS OF FUN AND SOME GOOD EATING FISH. WE CAUGHT ABOUT 3 OR 4 SAILS LAST MONTH BUT HAVEN’T BEEN FLYING THE KITE LATELY WE HAVE BEEN FISHING WITH PILCHARDS AND HERRINGS MOSTLY. I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO DOLPHIN SEASON AND DOING SOME TROLLING BUT SO FAR ONLY REPORTS OF SMALL FISH OUT THERE. I HAVE BEEN CHANGING MY TARGETED FISH FROM SAILS TO EATABLE SPECIES LATELY I HAVE COUGH LOTS OF SAILS BUT NOW I GET MORE EXCITED ABOUT CATCHING A MUTTON OR A GROUPER THAN I DO WHEN I CATCH A SAIL I GUESS I MUST BE GETTING OLDER. I’M PLANNING ON DOING SOME SWORD FISHING THIS SUMMER AND SOME YELLOWTAIL FISHING THAT’S DIFFERENT FOR ME I LIKE BEING ON THE WATER DURING THE DAY BUT AS YOU KNOW AROUND JULY THROUGH SEPTEMBER DAY FISHING GETS PRETTY HOT BY ABOUT 11 AM. I ALSO WILL BE HEADED DOWN TO THE MIDDLE KEYS FOR A WEEK IN JUNE LOOKING FORWARD TO THAT. FELLOW-SHIP |

Heading to Sanibel Island on 4/18 for a week and have a tarpon trip booked for 4/21, so I hope to return with some good stories . This is my first crack at tarpon fishing, so I've got my fingers crossed.

Yesturday while fishing by myself for Sails I was drifting to live baits when I heard a beep on the 188c looked over and saw a red dot, I put down a jig and began raising it up and down not really retrieving jigging, when a sail hit it about 30 minutes into the fight landed it it weighed between 70 and 80 lbs. It got exciting while trying to follow him and taking the live baits out at the same time I did'nt think I was going to get him, first sail on a jig, interesting.Fellow you'll be hooked on Yellowtailing, thats my specialty great eating and fantastic fighters. Dont forget the chum! RS.

Got back from Sanibel last night. The tarpon trip was a bust, but we did see a few cruising on the surface. Cast live threadfin herring to them but they weren't interested. My father landed a 9# snook, and my brother caught a nice one too. Unfortunately I got back to the dock empty-handed (we didn't keep the snook by the way).
If anyone is interested in a great guide in the Fort Myers/Sanibel area, give Capt. Sean Middleton a call at (239) 590-6428. His web site is www.flyingfishandco.com . |
