Insurance Help??

I was just talking to Boat US and they say that a 1975 23'SF is only rated for 300 horsepower. I hope this is not the case as I have twin 200s. Can anybody help me out here? He then said that in 1976 it was raised to 400 and then up to 500hp after that for a short time. Is he right or totally wrong like I hope he is?

The transom is new and closed with a floatation bracket on the back. Would this change things at all?

May be a ? for a surveoyer? Seems like the work / modifications would up the HP rating?
I think their worried about You BREAKING the Sound Barrier !

You could have problems on this one. Most insurance underwriters swapped out their brains out for a underwriting manual years ago trust me on this I talk to them all day long. The new SeaCrafts are rated for 300 thus the underwriter who is concerned about his job more than one boat policy usually will say 300 hp that’s it. I had to get a survey done first just to get coverage on my 77 with just one 225 on the transom. Perhaps if you copy one of the old brochures with the higher rating they might except it. It's my understanding that if the boat is 20ft or longer that it is not required by the coast guard to have a maxium horsepower rating. My 1982 23 Sceptre doesn't have a capacity plate, it might of had at one time but it doesn't now. Makes me wonder if it ever had one. [img]/images/graemlins/confused.gif[/img]
