Look, Look it’s a Bird, no it’s a Plain, no it’s Super SeaCraft.
More power full than a locomotive, Faster than a speeding Bullet, able to leap waves in a single bound.

about how often is it slick calm enough to open it up wide open in your local waters?

A high-end sports car can reach some pretty impressive speeds but traffic and road conditions rarely allow the full potential to be realized.

I don't have a clue how fast a 300hp would push a 23', but I am certain that there are boats more suited to hair raising speed if that is the primary goal.

my 23' with twin 200 merc Xri's (b4 i blew them up) would hit 51 knots empty with curtains up and 2 people on board at 5900rpm. depends on load and windage with curtains/t-top, but i bet somewhere around 42-45 knots with a single 300. Supposedly the 300's are overrated by Yamaha, but that's heresay - haven't see any true dino #

I'm a new member but I'm going to jump right in anyway. My 1980 23' Sceptre w/ twin 1995 Mercury 175HP outboards has been "clocked" at 48Kts at 5600 RPM and engines trimmed up w/ bimini, light fuel, myself and a decent amount of family junk (beach chairs, Boogie Boards, ect.) aboard. The boat is amazingly stable at this speed with no signs of chine-walking. Because this is really a family boat, I don't often run flat out but I had to find out how fast it is. The extra power is much appreciated when bringing two families to the beach- pops right up on plane, no sweat- or to run home quickly when the weather turns. I can also run at very low RPM (2900) and make good headway while greatly reducing fuel consumption and avoiding having to beat up the engines- they'll hopefully last longer. I'm sure you'll enjoy many of the same benefits if you choose the 300HP engine. And let's be honest- it really is fun to run full throttle at those speeds and feel the wind blow through your hair- whats left of it anyway. Sorry so long-winded. ENJOY!

I still think we might be able to squeeze a fifth engine in the middle to get just a few more knots on the top end. Never too fast, right?!
