Hi DINK,
I cut a access hole w/ hatch in the front of My console.I did not put the screws thru the bottom middle hinges.The hatch stays shut but comes out so I can access inside the console from either side.Batts. are inside the console.Scroll down to the console photo.This has worked out great.

Very nice photo album. I really like the instrument panel.
I would like to flush mount my electronics,as well, but will deal with the decks, hatched and fuel tank first.
