Welcome to the site. You may want to search the board for comments on a 20 with a bracket. Depending on how soft the transom is a bracket may prolong the need to replace it. Seamark (designed by Potter) sold by Hermco a member of this site has a very nice bracket and they have an insert that fills in the motor notch. I installed one on my 23' when I removed the I/Os and I am very happy with the results. The Seamark also has excellent flotation and gives you a swim platform. I don't know what length shaft you would need with a single bracket.

Good luck if you go thru with the purchase. I love my 20 which I've had for over 10 years and will be very sad to see her go when the 23 is done.

I am pretty certain we are still going through with the purchase. If I put a bracket on, I will rebuild the transom first. I also would consider the space for the lower unit to extend it to 25 inches.

Thanks,
Chris

Well, I have received more information on the perspective purchase. The boat is a 1970 model not a 1973. The owner has given me a $2000 allowance to get the transom rebuilt and I have an appointment with a well respected boat repair shop in the area first thing Monday morning.

I am pretty excited. I hope this boat is worth the trouble.

Chris, this would explain the lack of Hull ID #. Prior to '72, mfg's weren't required to place a HIN on the boat.

Knocking $2K off the price seems fair. Good luck and keep us posted on the progress.
