Jim - if the bottom of the ice box is not going to be level with the water line, meaning the box will stay parallel with the curve of the transom cap, you will want to place the drain on the outboard aft corner. If you're making the boxes so the bottom is level with the water line, you should be able to place the drain in the center.

I *think* the box is level with the water line ... (No boat here to check) .... BUT anything will be better than its current location which, in my case, is high enough in the well wall to allows about a 1/4" of water to pool. Those boxes never seem to be dry. Chances are that the boat will, ever so slightly, list to port or starboard when she’s in the water so location on the bottom is your preference
