Waterline

My 23 Seabird has a 1-inch space, then a 2-inch waterline stripe I tend to like the bottom and waterline stripe to be the same color.

Here's a 2" boot with about 1”-1.5" space ....it follows the chine but needs to be raised towards the stern.

I agree with what Scott said about the color matching the bottom ... This is a different spin though ....didn't like it at first but it has grown on me .... This hull color is tough ...white hulls you can spruce up with different colors
