Default hull ID question

I can't seem to get the search function on this site to work........so here's my question:
Does a 1970 SC have a 12 character HIN (hull identification number)? And if so, where would it be (20' Seafari).

Thanks!

Steve

Rock..The HIN on my 71 Seafari was stamped into the starboard upper corner of the transom. As are most boats. The official seacraft mfgr decal was located on the port side insinde the boat down by your feet right infront of the bulkhead. I probably could have worded that shorter...

If your hull is a 1971 or older, there is a very good chance that it does not have a HIN at all. My '71 did not, and was later issued a number by the state of FL in the form of a sticker. The number off that sticker was then (during the redo) stamped into the glass so that it looks as though it was there all along. Prior to 1972, I don't think HIN numbers were required and I'm told that '71 was a transition year in which some had it and some did not.

MA will not accept the old hull# when you try to register the boat; you will have to bring the boat to the EPO's to have it inspected and have a new hull number issued. The EPO's will place a new 12# hull number in a "hidden location" for ID in the case of theft, etc. Had to go through this with my "71" Seafari. The Hyannis Reg. office is who informed me of the requirements, give them a call.

My '72 Seabird has a 5-digit mfg serial # and MA assigned a 12-character HIN starting with "MSZ" for the title. I can not find the HIN on the boat (it was already assigned when I bought it), but the EPO's didn't hassle me with confirming that the HIN was on the boat when I registered/title it under my name. They only recommended that I put the number in an inconspicuous place. This was at the Boston headquarters which really shocked me, I thought I was going to get the third degree.
