With 6 people, 2 coolers and 1/2 tank of gas, I had Mark's boat ("pre-Mark") on plane WOT at 34mph on the handheld gps. Unfortunately fuel economy was lacking since we ran out of fuel trying to go 24 miles roundtrip in Biscayne Bay. Reading the GPs was one of the last things I remember that night...I guess that wide open is not the most economical cruise speed. I think thats a good engine choice if you are going "old school". Boat previously had a 140 johnson on it (V-4) that might have seen 40 mph on a good day, but drank more fuel than the yammie
