FXRSCOTTY, I am considering lowering my '02 Night Train and was wondering what set-ups people were happy with. $80 for replacement (shorter, I guess) bolts or $250 for White Brothers bolts and shocks. I know you get what you pay for, but? Can you do the rear first and the front later, or is this a nightmare? Just looking for another cool forum, really. Thanks. Vezo.

I don't ride a Harley, but...
you can lower the rear first-it will just increase your rake(make it more chopper-like, by throwing your front wheel out a little further, it will turn slower and slightly different). Then you can do the front, you may be able to slide the forks up in the triple clamps, effectively lowering your front end. Just be careful that at full suspension travel your front wheel/fender does not touch the bottom triple clamp. Usually you can raise the forks a little less than an inch...but check to make sure you have no contact.

Pogden, Almost done with my boat, only have to attach the t-top and associated wiring. (Radio, etc.) I'll send some pics if it ever stops raining so I can finish. I did splash it though and got 51 mph in fresh water and no trim tabs on the GPS. Will slow down with the t-top.

Thanks guys. Pogden, last ride was an FJ1200. Awesome. Think I like it better than the Harley. No time to enjoy and this part of the country SUCKS for bikes. Would sell first over the three boats! Problem is, no matter what, when you live this close to the Atlantic, there is NO way to save your money!?! Appreciate the info.. Vezo.

Veso, if you want to wait on buying a lowering kit. You may be able to slide your fork tubes up through your trees by an inch or so and acheave the same seat height . This will shorten your wheel base a little but the bike will still handle fine. Be carefull you have clearance to your tank when the front is turned side to side. Measure the tubes with a scale or good ruler and keep them even. This is an old ice racer trick. Scotty.

Are there really no Harley forum sites?

I would happily start a forum if you want, just tell me what domain name you want and I will put it up on the server.

As for Harleys although I have never been on one I do have a very strong connection to the company as my Grandfather, Svend Heiberg and his good Friend Axel Svanea were two of the first to go around the world on a Motorcycle, a Harley with a sidecar (the sidecar was for toting spare parts)

They started in Denmark sometime in the early 1920's and went around westward through deserts and who knows what else, hopping aboard freighters when they hit ocean, when they crossed the states they stopped into the then small Harley Factory, Harley having no idea who they were were astounded that someone was attempting to go around the world on their bikes.

I have a picture somewhere of their return in Denmark, Although I never met my Grandfather, passed away in the 60's, I have heard some of the most amazing stories from their trip.

Well, since we're talking gearhead-type pursuits here.
What does a midlife crisis-aged father of a gearhead-inclined 15 year old boy do in the winter when it's too cold to fiberglass his Seacraft and it won't fit in the garage?

He gets himself in Waaaay over his head of course
