Overheat buzzer malfunction?
I have a 1988 Evenrude 150hp. The overheat buzzer sounds when the motor is stone cold. Anyone have an idea as to what might cause this?

Re: Overheat buzzer malfunction?
My personal experience is that the buzzer is not malfunctioning but something else. Have it checked by your mechanic immediately. My brother burned up a perfectly good 150 because he thought the same thing. It could be something minor and you don't want to turn it into something major with the summer approaching.

Re: Overheat buzzer malfunction?
I am thinking more in terms of your oil injection system.

Re: Overheat buzzer malfunction?
Is it a continuous buzz or an intermittent buzz? On my old merc it was continuous for overheating and intermittent for oil flow.

Re: Overheat buzzer malfunction?
It is a continuous buzz. But it occurs when the key is turned 1/2 way even without starting the motor. I am not sure how the motor could overheat when it has sat for 2 days. THe wiring is pretty old and I am hoping it is a malfunction.
It is a 2 stroke and the oil is premixed with the fuel so I am noty sure how it could be an oil problem |

Re: Overheat buzzer malfunction?
I don't know the most about outboards and there workings but when you turn the key halfway there is supposed to be a buzz from the engine horn jsut to let you know that the engine horn is working and connected. Now maybe there was some sort of short in this device aimed at letting you know the horn/buzzer still works?? These are my thoughts. Before this problem did the engine chirp, buzz or whatever very briefly as you fired it up and then was quiet? Best of luck!
