Question on Sequence
I have been getting pricing on new power and have pretty much settled on a Crusader 6.0 MPI and new transmission.
With the repower I want to recondition the stringers as required, bilge, rudder table, and bulkheads, reinstall the tanks, replace packing with dripless, and new exhaust and steering. Basically everthing accessible through the console and aft deck plate while the engine is out. Also, while repower being done, redo the console (complete rewire, new guages, etc.). There is no way I can do any more than this (cost wise) at one time so my question is am I doing it a$$ backwards. Is there a problem with doing the repower and address the hull, cap, and deck at a future time? They are in decent shape and look fine but I want to restore the entire boat eventually. I just can't do it all in one year and I'd like to use the boat in the meantime. |

Re: Question on Sequence
I hope this wasn't a dumb question. I wanted to get opinions on what if any problems I could be creating by doing the repower first rather than gutting the boat and starting from bottom up. I have to phase this so if I take the gut approach, I'll be boatless for two years which I am hoping to avoid.

Re: Question on Sequence
Ralph
I think your time sequence is appropriate. I don't know what year your boat is, but anything close to the 25 year age, a transom redo might be in order. As long as your under the deck back aft, most transom replacements are done from the inside It appears your plans are for a total refurb. You might as well do it right the first time (regardless of the time) vs a band-aid repair and have to back pedal later on
