Ben,You hack away and build you a little "MERRITT"! As you can tell if you saw my skiff pics that Mark posted I am a big fan of teak helm pods and toe rails.In my opinion there should be a little Roy Merritt in every boat!

Hello Ben-

I ripped all of mine out at the same time and I would suggest you do the same. The one thing that is imperative is that you block the boat and make sure she is straight and stays straight while you replace the stringers. I also laid in some more glass in areas while the stringers were out, not having the stringers in place helped out in laying new glass

To make the outer stringers m,ake a template and do your best, bonding putty may become your best friend.

I only have a 45 gal tank but with the 140 4stroke I have never needed anything larger.

joey - i second that, this consol belongs in a museum, i scored it for $250 but a friend who makes them for a living said it has over $500 worth of teak alone... ill get a pic up soon

trayder - so doing it on the trailer is a no-no? ive blocked a boat before but it would be soo much easier as it sits and my feeling is that any shape it would have lost is gone by now since the stringers are [censored] anyways, any truth behind this theory?

As long as the triailer provides good and even support it should be fine. Just do not move the boat around after you take the stringers out.

As for the boat being messed up because the stringers are already shot.....hmmm possibly but as you said before the inner 2 are OK so I think you should be fine, how does it look to the eye?

I would recommend that you do them one at a time to try and keep some shape in it. I think I understood you to say you have cut the cap already? I haven't seen any pix's yet. [img]/images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img]

This thing could become a real wet noodle.

Ben, I just went through this also. Keeping the boat on the trailer is not the best way to do this. When the boat is in the water it settles different than when on the trailer. The trailer will have different pressure points than blocking it.
Trayder is on the money with making sure the boat is straight. Mine had an inch and a half corkscrew in it when I started.
I put a 75 gallon tank in my 20' with a 200 and I have plenty of gas for the day.

Congratulations on the score of the 21'.

I would still be willing to lend a hand on the retrofit. Got a family so maybe one evening a week? let me know. I know a little of eletrical and electronics.
