Default fuel vent question

The last really rough day a went out I had a problem with water in my fuel. I have no idea how it got there it has a brand new tank with brand new hoses and everything. At first I thought that the gas station might of sold me watered down gas but I have filled up there many times and never had a problem before, then I talked to another guy with a 20 sc and he said that water would come through his fuel vent. Does anyone else have this problem? I was thinking about maybe putting a clam shell type vent over it, is there any other suggestions?
thanks
-George

George,

If you are taking in water through the vent, you are far from being the first person with that happening. I don't have a fix to recommend, but I personally know people that have taken in plenty of water through the fuel vent

Which kind of vent do you have? Gemlux makes some pretty nice flush mount ones and there are others that are more directional.
What also works is, direct the vent aft. You can also make a horizontal "S" in your vent line, that will work like a trap and the water will blow out when you fill. Or do both.

Fin, I couldn't agree with you more, putting a trap in the vent line is a must.

If you have enough hose you should make a half moon curve in the hose pointing upwards towards the cap possibly connecting it to the underside of the cap in that way you have sufficient vertical up rise to prevent water from traveling up around and into your gas tank.

FellowShip,

I had trouble getting the hose to loop in the confined space without kinking, so I made up a U-shape copper tube and attached it to the underside of the gunwale.
