TRIM TABS WON'T FIT

I have a pair of Bennett trim tabs that came with my boat that don't fit due to the bracket on the stern. Anyone know which model of Bennett trim tabs will work with reduced area to install them? Thanks, Dunny [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]

It would depend on the bracket. Measure the area in question and take a look at Bennett's site for the tab that would fit the best.

I don't know what size tabs you have but 12"x 12" Bennett's seem to be the most popular size for the 23'. Bennett does make different size actuators, so depending on your bracket type and at what height the platform is, will determine what size actuator would fit best. I have the SeaMark (Potter) bracket. I got the 10" actuator from Bennett. It was the smallest they make and I still had to notch the platform on the bracket. I think the Lenco brand trim tabs will fit under most brackets without modification. If you intend to utilize the Bennetts, I would contact Tom Mcgow at Bennett Marine for his advise. Capt Chuck - I noticed in your pic that your trim tabs are not flush with the bottom of the hull?? When I installed my 12x12s I mounted them just about at the bottom edge of the hull (about 1/8" up).

Is there a reason for this?? thanks Jack

I think it's just the angle of the picture...They are mounted flush with the bottom deadrise approx 1/8" up as recommended [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]

Wow, after seeing the picture of your boat I'm compelled to go out and work a little more an my boat before painting.What great workmanship.
Does the potter bracket help trim the boat or does it seem make the trim tabs work harder?
I noticed it's hight above the bottom of the boat so at a plane do the tabs have to create more lift?
Also that your drain hole has been pluged on the transom do you recomend that?
Sorry for so many dumb questions.

Capt Chuck - yep that is an optical illusion... Your hull is so shiney [img]/images/graemlins/wink.gif[/img] it looks like the tabs are mounted high on the transom in that one stearn shot..

Remember it's the "Outer Edge" of the Tab that is up approx 1/8"- 1/4" up from the bottom of the boat. Not the mounting plate. As mentioned, I only used 10" actuators..You don't want the tab to be dragging when it is extracted. (up position)

Being that the SeaMark bracket is a "Positive" Floatation bracket and "Parallel" with the bottom of the boat, there is minimal "Squatting" when out of the hole. Less tab use is the result especially at plane because the motor's prop is in "Cleaner Water".

My boat is kept 99% of the time on a lift. It would have been impossible to reach under the bracket and pull the plug to drain the bilge. The drain plug was drilled through the bottom of the keel up against the transom. Access is obtained through a transom door and a special handle/drain plug set up.

Very clever, We don't have boats stacked out here. I live in the Mojave desert and of course keep mine on a trailer. So worried about standing water.
I never heard of a Seacraft till I bought one while in FL visiting a friend. Real impressed by you guys and your knowlage of fine boats.Seacraft was of no help and couldn't even tell me what the fuel tank size was.
