Default backup bilge pump

Some SeaCraft owners have told me that they have installed a backup bilge pump or even two. I have a single bilge pump on my 1998 23' CC and am wondering whether to install a backup. I'd be interested in any advice or comment.

The answer is Yes, install a 2nd unit along with a high water alarm.
I just finished doing this. Not just the 2nd pump, but wiring the whole bildge for the 1st time.

The 2 switch's you see on the panel are Single Pole/ Double throw. Or On/OFF/ON in layman's term's. The 1st ON put's them in AUTO to run thru the Float switch's. The 2nd ON bypass's the float switch's.

Where the transducer is, is foward

Every time I start a project you guys come up with a much nicer way of doing it. I never thought of a high water alarm.
My dad capsized his boat off catalina one time because he was so concerned with chuming for shark he didn't see the cockpit and cabin fill will water.
Thats why I believe in one or two backups. I'm even more absent minded then my dad is.
Is that the bottom of a Seacraft Warthog?

I'm afraid not. It's my Mako.

If you will look at the center of the pod above the opening for the Garmin 2006C. That is the high water idiot light.

The red button to the left is the horn button.
