New SeaCraft

Yeah I remember back in the day when I used to fish the NSDA (Northern Spinney Dogfish Association) circuit. Man O man you want to talk about cut throat. Our jersey's looked like Spidercrab designed them....Then again, the whole NSDA circuit was his idea in the first place. Figures. [img]/images/graemlins/mad.gif[/img]

Our biggest problem was the funding. We didn't have enough Mr.Pib drinkers around here to entice any sponsors.

Why don't you enter a tournament, they are usually open for anyone one to enter. You don't have to wear a bowling shirt or have sponsor logos, just enter and try your luck. Tournaments are very expensive if you fish tournaments outside of your home port, therefore many teams search for sponsors to offset the costs.

I am a fairly competitive person and since I don't play softball, football, and very little golf, tournaments offer a way to compete with others in a sport that I enjoy. Tournaments are not for everyone, but once you start fishing a few you may be suprised how much you enjoy them. The SKA Hogs Breath tournament is next weekend. Sign up.

I fished the "ASA" American Striper Association for the first 2 years of its innception here in the NE. The ASA is a northern spinnoff of the SKA founded by the same person Jack Holmes.

There is no comparison size or reputaionwise between the ASA or the SKA. The ASA is .0000001 the size of the SKA.

I can with out a doubt say ASA made me a better Striped Bass fisherman but after two years of working my butt off and spending way too many thousands of dollars it started to kill the fun of striper fishing. (this may also be because I never finished better than top 3, and out of 15-20 boats thats not very good) [img]/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img]

The SKA is a business for many fishermen and the sponsorships are a great way for non millionare fishermen to get out there and perform.

In regards to the ASA I did get a chuckle out of 36 and 38 foot cc's with 3 and one time 4 OB eniges battling it out for Striped Bass. Expecially when for the past 3-4 years a 21-23 foot single engined boat takes home the win.

My hats off to you DoneDeal good luck with the tournament trail.

Maybe you can talk to the folks at SeaCraft for us and be an ambasadeur of sorts. There is nothing more we would like than to see the glory of the SeaCraft name come back again.

Thanks...I'd love to be a liason to SeaCraft but you know they (SeaCraft) frequent these boards and hear your voices too. Don't think they are going unheard. I just PM'd someone back who thought of some things that needed to be changed/addressed on the new hulls. Two of the three things SeaCraft has already addressed and is currently in the process of being fixed for good. The other was just a personal preference type of thing that I never had a problem with or heard of.

I saw somewhere that Ron was on here from the plant. Trust me he is listening and changes are happening. You have to understand that it hard to interupt production to R and D new designs/molds and et cetera. Things are happening and it takes time.

Fellowship-
This thing has become BIG business with the inception of the FLW tour. Salaries are becoming not so uncommon to fish. Let alone free trucks and all expenses paid. Insane boat deals where guys actually profit from turning them over every year, yes profit. Yeah, there are a lot of wealthy people doing this but you be shocked to know how little a lot of guys actually pay.

I really wish you luck in catching “the big one” who knows maybe you will be the next “Spanish Fly” some day.
I really like kidding around with the guys on the board and love to poke fun at thinks that seem kind of foolish to a old salt. BUT on two occasions that I watched those tournament guys breeze by me IF I WOULD HAVE ENTERED I would have won the darn things. Once with a 55 pound Wahoo that would have brought me $40,000 and then a 200 something pound Swordfish last year that would have been worth 10-12 grand. I have always been a pure sportsmen about fishing. If I start catching to many of a species I will start backing down in tackle size, like now I usually fish 20 pound spinners and conventional reels for Sailfish just to make it a little harder on me. I never sell my catch or never entered a tournament because I don’t want fishing to become work I want it to stay on my FUN column in life. “If your fun becomes work than what do you do for fun”?? I guess that’s why I re did a 76 SeaCraft I could have bough a new boat if I wanted to BUT What fun is that??? Redoing my 76 was one of my most memorable accomplishments “I never did anything like that before” and probably never will do it again. I can remember people looking at me and thinking What in the world was he thinking???
On one occasion as I was driving down the road with my boat stripped down but still not put back together yet a guy with a truck started beeping and beeping swerving in and out of traffic trying to get next to me he rolled down the window and yelling ha buddy are you taking the old piece of S**T to the dump??
I want you to know for me it’s not for the $$$$ it for the Fun pure and simple. If I did what I do for $$$ I know for sure you couldn’t pay me that much $$$ to do what I do.

Fellowship- Thanks buddy. You know, its funny. While growing up and going on family vacations, I was very fortunate to have a father who would charter boats. Whether we were stalking the flats for bonefish in the Keys or trolling for marlin in Bermuda, all I ever wanted to do was to be a guide. Now, that is that last thing I want to do. I hear ya on how things change and on how fun turns into work quick.
