Underpowered?
No, plenty of 23 hulls are powered with 200hp. Capt Chuck's was, Scott P's is, the Fishcutter's is, and many many more. According to brian there was a 23 in FL with a single 140 suzuki.... That 200 is the same block as my 225's and it is very reliable and cheap to fix. |

Perhaps a little underpowered. I have a 1973 23' with a Yamaha 250 on a bracket. She is a bit heavy with a little extra glass post restoration. Top speed is about 43 mph. The Yamaha 250 puts her on a plane without much labor. A Yamaha 225 would probably yield same top speed but would drop some torque. I think the 200 hp is a little light for the older hull. Todays Sea Craft hull is not as heavy. I have a friend with a 2002 23' Sea Craft with 225 mercury that goes close to 50 mph (no T-top).

When I put the V8 Rude on mine we put a plate on for no particular reason other than to spread the torque, doesn't mean the transoms about to fall off.
