Default Re-finish laminated bulkhead ?

Hi. This spring, I want to paint the brown, interior bulkhead in my 23' Tsunami to white or off white.

Currently it has the original plywood w/ faux wood laminate.

What type of marine finish can be applied over this laminate - almost like a formica. I want it to be durable and last 'forever'...

Thx.

My 23 ft 1971 SF had the same kind of material on the front bulkhead. It was fadded and ugly.
My friend had the same problem on his and I copied his solution.
Go to Home depot and but a piece of white formica. Made a cardboard template before cutting formica. Glued formica on with contact cement. I had to loosen the screws and file down the formica a little to get in in back of the plywood but it looks great and washes up nice.

Another thought ... I think the painters in my marina said that it could be painted (Alwgrip,Imron,Sterling) with a good cleaning , sanding and prime. I may have even asked the tech support at Sterling the same question

Hi Scott,
Yes it is the same Scott who is anal about his 76 23SF.
He also took off all the wood because it can't be made perfect and replaced it with starboard. He replaced the radar with the newer model.

Thx for the ideas. Both make sense and are simple enough.
