Transom Problems

Ouch !! Hate to say it, but this is gettin uglier - we've got a submersion soaking, and a previous transom extension from 20 to 25 inch. Actually, with the tranny already extended to 25, even with the older, lighter twin 150's on there... it should have been high enough...don't know if your switch stuck, or the battery just ran out of juice from the bilge pump running.

On a stock boat, at least on mine, the joint between the outer hull and the inner liner in the transom area was hidden under a piece of trim, but was essentially wide open to water getting in. Don't know how that tranny extension was put on, but it's a real good guess your tranny is soaked.

I would absolutely Not recommend putting another extension on top of the first extension - if your going to close the tranny, you'd want to remove the first tranny extension - and if you want to install a bracket, I'd recommend installing a couple of knees on the inside, to add support to the transom.

Like it or not, now your talking a full tranny rebuild, from the inside, with knees added - but lots of folks have done this much major surgery - both here, and over on the classic mako site - it can be a home project - suggest you cruise thru some of these rebuild projects, and get a feel for the work involved, vs. your skills and how you feel about tackling that much of a project.

It looks like to me that you got more that TWO WISE MEN all telling you the same thing. Think About It. “when in doubt tare it out” or “Pay me now or pay for it latter” it could cost you more that just one bad day on the water.
