Default painting of hull

I got a quote yesterday to paint the outside hull of my 20.

I quess I went into it with a lower expectation about the $$ price and before going with it I wanted to get some input from some of you which have gone thru it already.

I was quoted $3500 to do the outside only.

This envolved sanding down the hull, spraying a expo barrier coat, primer and then the color.

Apparently the prior owner did a terrible job in his paint job of which I HATE the color ( dark green) and also not a traditional seacraft color.

Does this sound about right?

Any input or suggestions would be helpfull.

Or maybe someone can chine in on someone in south florida to go get additional estimates. I can drive the boat up but don't really want to drive 1000 miles to get it done

Cant say ... BUT I always felt Florida was much more price competitive since there are so many more marinas etc etc down your way. Was that your only quote ?

In the NE I was quoted $3300-3500 for a 23 ... just the hull sides ... This was at a big yard that paints big stuff more often than small stuff. Two otherr quotes were in the $130-150/foot range..insides are a whole different story

To have a Pro paint your boat will cost plenty. I was quoted from $4,500 to $6,000 to do my whole boat inside and out with Awlgrip. I ended up painting the boat myself with Sterling Paint similar to Awlgrip but a little more easier to work with using the roll and tip method. Cost me approx $1,000 to do the boat myself and came out pretty good.

I was also quoted about 3.5k for my Seafari for a professional job inside and out with Imron.

A fiberglass guy in the warehouses on the street just south of Tamiami Airport, behind the new car dealer building, can't remember his name though. He was doing a great job on a flats boat in his shop when I asked.
