Completed final layer of 24oz woven roven on transom. Came out good, but it shure soaked in the resin.
![]() Need to measure, cut and cap the transom at 25 inches. With twins, the transom can come up a few more inches , I think. Anyone know what the over all measurement from the bottom (apex)of the hull? A diagram, or some kind of photo showing where the measurement should be taken from would helm. Thanks for any assistance. Find a vertical centerline on the transom. Measure out each side for the new motor centerlines. Standard was 26" centers so you would go out 13" from the centerline each side. The new 4 strokes want at least a 28" engine center line so you may want to setup the holes for 4 strokes in case you repower in the future. Measure 25" up from the engine centerlines for 25" shaft length motors and this will be your final transom heighth. Make a horizontal line at this heighth and cut your transom. Be sure you have allowed enough width for steering cyllinders and cowling clearance to the outsides.

Thanks Hermco,
If I understand you, this is what your talking about, please advise. Did I take the transom height measurement from the right place? or should it be on the lower chine. Thanks again for the assistance. I borrowed this transom photo from earlier in the post! Thanks guys! Jason ![]() |

Measure up 25" from where the engine centerline begins at the bottom of the boat.

Hermco,
What are you using as a notch width for a single 4S (say 150HP) ? |

I am usually filling the transoms and adding a bracket but if you are thinking of repowering with a 4 stroke on a boat with an existing cut out transom I would temporarily mount the motor with the two top bolts only and hook up the steering then turn hard over both ways. If you have clearance I would turn the motor hard over and begin trimming the motor up carefully to check for full tilt clearance. It might help to have a second person as a spotter so you don't crush the cowling when checking.

Capped the transom, need some fairing and sanding.
![]() Got a little tired of sanding and grinding so I decided to see how a little rubbing compund and wax would make me feel.I was pleased to see how the 32 year old gel coat was going to hold up. I was pleasantly surprised. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
