Default 1998 yamaha 250EFI question?

What would be good compression for a 1989 yamaha 250 efi?

owner says he has about 500 hours on it

Is there anything else I should look for?

I would say 120-125lbs per cylinder. Anything lower than 115lbs is going to be pretty beat. And make sure all six cylinders are all fairly close, say no more than 5% of each other.
BTW, I don't think they made a efi in '89.

Yeah, the shift shafts are prone to go on those motors, and the shift linkage tends to bind up as well. Just make sure it's free and well greased and ask him if the shift shaft was replaced with stainless.
