Default 225 Mercury Optimax

Is anyone running a 225 Opti on thier Sea Crafts? I just re-powered with a 225 and the marina that installed the engine says to only use Merc Optimax Oil- Is any one running regular TCW-3 in this engine? I dont want to void my warranty if something goes wrong- not using Optimax Oil. I have 5 cases of non Opti oil left and dont want to waste it. Thanks

I would run the Opti oil. Running other oils will void your warranty from what I have been told.

Do yourself a favor and only use the Optimax oil.

I have two 2001 225 Optis on a 32' SC. A family member who is a Mercury repair shop owner and the tech support at Mercury both told me that Premium Plus oil is more than adequate for the Optis.

Use of non-Opti oil will void warranty. Find yourself a Merc repair facilty- they sell Opti oil in a 55 gallon drum- you bring a container and fill up - save yourself about $6 or 8 dollars over buying the one gallon containers at boating stores. The Opti oil has a dye in it which tells Merc if the proper oil has been used for warranty.

I have a 225 Opti,I only use Opti oil, but I've never heard that it was a warranty requirement. My friend also has a 225 Opti, he had a 55 gal. barrel of Merc. Premium Plus and the dealer told him to go a head and use it. He's got close to 1000 hours on his motor with no ill effects.

The Opti's and all other DFI EFI motors oil differently than Carbed motor and do require the newer oil.
