25 seafari w/outboards
25' Seafari restoration. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. She was originally a twin ib/ob setup. She is currently in the shop getting the transom replaced. I've got big plans for her. My current dillema is considering weight distribution because i want to convert her to twin outboards. I have already purchased a used twin gil bracket with a 29" offset. I also have two sets of engines to chose from. 94 model 150's carb.(mercs) or 00 model 225's efi(mercs). Do you guys think I can get away with this.I will check back later in the day. I will also post pics of her when I get her back next week from glass shop. I dont know if she'll sit right in the water and fuel is a big consideration also. There may be to much weight astern with outboards. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks

Re: 25 seafari w/outboards
The 3.0L merc's are PIGS. I'd go with the 150's . . . they're lighter and much better on fuel. Make sure you check compression on the motors and run them (if possible). If you find that you need more HP . . . there are bolt on mods that can be done for little money on those 150's. www.screamandfly.com byuboyz.com have lots of good info!!

Re: 25 seafari w/outboards
thanks for the reply, do you think I will be alright with weight distribution after mounting the motors so far back off the transom. I'd like to hear from some guys that have twins on 23's that are on brackets. While the boat has been in the glass shop I have gotten some negative feedback that has me questioning my idea of bracketing the boat with twins. Thanks again

Re: 25 seafari w/outboards
I saw one of the 25's with twin i/o's . . . those weigh a LOT more than two 2.0L or 2.5L 150 Merc's (less than 400lbs each)
The cabin weight should offset the any extra stern weight from the bracket and twin outboards. Are those 150's 2.0L or 2.5L motors? |

Re: 25 seafari w/outboards
they are 2.0 motors, thats another reason why i was considering the 3.0 motors
