Default Crated Motor

Hey guys Im getting to the point of buying a motor in the next 6 mths I am leaning towards the suzuki 140 might take a closer look at the yamahas. My question is in talking to a few people there telling me you can buy a crated motor in the south and save a bunch of money, has anyone done this? any opinions or thoughts would be appreciated. obviously when I talk to the local dealer he agreed this happens and didn't really mind as long as he got the warranty card for the credit of the sale.
Thanks Troy

Sounds great as long as you get the warranty. I have heard of guys rigging there own engines and having NO warranty because the card needs to be returned to the factory signed off that it was rigged by an authorized tech. If you have a dealer willing to do that, sounds like a good deal. I've seen some crate motors on e-bay that were such good deals I would even take a chance with no warranty because they were such good deals. Good Luck

Troy - I ordered my Yamaha 250 crated. Had it shipped to the local Saia Terminal and picked it up. Saved money on the engine and no sales tax (bought out of state).

I mounted and rigged the engine myself and never had any warranty issues. The cowling was damaged in shipping and the Yamaha dealer I bought the motor from (after sending digital photos of the paint scratch) sent me a new cowling.

All and all it was a good deal.

Is the Suzuki 140 being discontinued becuase the 150 is out? If so might have a hard time locating. Try www.bayracermarine.com (North Carolina) I bought my 140 from them, they shipped I had local dealer do the rigging saved several thousand in the process (talk to John Mckenna).

Make sure you talk through the warranty issues and get it ironed out prior to doing anything.

www.custom-marine.com of Statesboro, Ga. is 100 miles from me. And I am traveling to Jackson, NJ Sept. 12 or 13. Speak to Brad. 05 Yamaha F60 for my 15 Whaler. All the net research and they beat my best deal (for the crate motor). Then they nickle and dimed me to death on prop, wiring harness, and ultimately sold me an '04 tach with no hour meter. Do your homework! I'm coming that way anyway. May even be dragging the Jersey Skiff for an event in Long Branch. Check them out and let me know. I think they represent all four major brands. Part II.

Why not just have the motor installed in NC on the road trip back after the Florida repairs?

Ya know Tex That was my Idea and then I got talking to my cousin and he starts putting Ideas in my head such as "Lets just pic the boat up when its complete in Fla and head south to the keys and fish it." Sounds good in theory but I dont think its going to be that easy. anyway I think Ill be making a few trips down there this winter so maybe Ill just scoop a motor from this guy and drop it off to have it installed by the guy who is finishing the boat.
