I gotta admit I could go either way - either is new ground to me, and Chatham does sound real interesting - plus it sounds like there are alot of folks right there -

I'm just thinking that for Chatham, having done some ramp and chart research, that gathering up that caravan, launching en-masse at Harwichport, and doing a buddy boat trip to Chatham - especially if we go out and around Monomoy - or meeting a local to guide us through any inside route, would be the way to go.

either way, I'm game.

I would have liked to explore pleasant bay and the fishing off of Chatham - it would have been new water for me. But Jon G makes a compelling argument to find another location (lack of parking, fog, shoaled inlets, etc).

I've only been to Barnstable once - this year. Parking is also limited, but there is also easy access from Sandwich or Sesuit. It's also generally in the lee of the normal SW winds.

If we choose Barnstable, my plan would probably be to put in at Sandwich and fish my way to Barnstable.

I'd vote for Barnstable with what I know now. A good argument for Chatham could change my mind, but so far the local members seem to think there is a high likelihood of problems.

I am from chatham and having said that i am not always comfortable navigating in and aroudn the area especially in fog. I would have to say that the cape cod bay side would probably be better. Not to mention i have seen school bluefin upto 100lbs there already this year. many good bass areas too. I vote for Barnstable.

Well fog is always a possibility. as far as the shallow spots. you definately need to get it on a plane and trim it up. I saw a lot of people chewing it up last weekend. the cut still has enough water as long as it isn't to rough. if you go to ryders you might want to bring a bicycle lol. meeting house isn't as bad. there is a couple of more like the cove and crows pond. not to good at high tide unless you don't care about your truck. there is a big parking lot at compari's in n chatham off 28. maybe someone could run shuttle. I like pleasant bay but, thats what i know best and have it plotted on my gps. wind direction usally influneces what side i go out of

Theres lots of beach/anchor room on sandy neck out sied barnstable harbor, and on the Nantucket sound side lots of room at Saquatucket to park a short run to monomoy with rips and fish on the outside and beach on the inside. So many options what to do?, The beach scene is way better on Monomoy(you can land in certain areas) or Sandy neck than Chatham anyway lots of boats on the inside of Nauset Beach kinda like a parking lot, More food for thought. I'm easy I've seen them all, either one would hive a higher fun factor for anyone not familiar with the area with the threat of fog and crappy inlet, Low tide for the 15th, Chatham inside is 11:41am http://www.boatma.com/tides/julcht06.html

Saturday is a non-commercial striper day, so parking shouldn't be as bad. If this gathering is delayed until Sunday, then there could be a parking problem.

I vote for Barnstable. It's a shorter distance to trailer for the off-Cape guys, plus it puts everyone in some great striper and SBFT waters. I'm trying to convince my father to drop his Sceptre in at Green Harbor and run down from there.

Scott:

Let me know if you and your father are going to do that. I am planning to run down from Boston early that morning, whether to Chatham or Barnstable.

Chris,
We've decided to tow the boat down to Sandwich Marina instead.

It probably makes sense if those who plan on attending reply here with their boat name for hailing purposes. If no boat name, mention that you'll be using your CSC name instead. I'll be on my father's 23' Sceptre, "Summer Salt".

Is there a preferred VHF channel in the area besides 16 that everyone can monitor?

I can't believe no one else picked up on this! I've never used the "quote" option here but a few comments back our administrator said something that just made this site TRUELY Classic:

"I could care less as a day on my Seacraft even in Antarctica is fine with me."

Freakin' Classic. I could not have said it better myself! I will be on the Cape in Sept. and I've got a beer with your name on it. Hope you all have a GREAT get together. Part II.
